In February 1988, they worked for tyrannical Sam Barlow on the road gang, and Sam wanted to show them what working really is. He started spending it on fast cars, and was even seen as "The Bank Of Lance" by Summer Bay residents, they kept asking him for loans. Lance and a number of previous Summer Bay residents return for the town's 150th celebrations. The event is marred by a huge storm and Lance, Martin several others form a search party to find a group of Summer Bay residents who have been shipwrecked. Lance and Debbie return a few months later believing Colleen is a millionaire after, following the release a book that she has allegedly written.
Their romance was short-lived as Lance decided against marrying her. Lance and Martin were named as the "thickest characters ever to grace soapland" in the Daily Record. Ash notices that Kat has been seeing Dylan and warns her that Dylan is a bad influence, but she doesn't listen to him or to Phoebe.
Roo Stewart
With their band Image flying high after a chart release, Lance began to get cold feet, disliking having his life manipulated by Nina. Word spread around town that there was a bunyip on the loose and Lance confided in Martin who warned him he might get into trouble with the police. Adam found out about Lance being the bunyip but Martin persuaded him not to call the police and they went ahead with their appearance at the Sands opening but Lance deliberately crucified the song. For some reason the papers gave him great reviews, leaving Lance more miserable than ever so he came up with a plan with Andrew’s help and made a fool of himself on Saturday morning TV. His plan worked as Nina ripped up the contract and sacked them but it left Marilyn and Martin furious with him.
Ash goes to Angelo's to find Darryl Braxton, causing his girlfriend, Ricky to be wary of him. Brax reveals that Ash is his former cell mate, who helped him out while he was in prison. Brax gives Ash a job at his restaurant and lets him sleep on the couch. When Brax loses his temper with his brother, Ash realises that he is not coping and urges him to open up to his family about his time inside.
Characterisation and relationships
Vroom found it challenging to reprise the role because Lance had changed. He felt that he did not have to portray him like he used to, adding it was like "editing an old character". Home and Away decided to sign Vroom up to make additional appearances later that year. Vroom said he would have liked to return on a more permanent basis. He returned in 2002 as part of the serial's fourteenth anniversary celebrations.
She later offered to not go with Martin but Lance told her the damage had already been done and a furious Marilyn dumped him and announced her intention to move into a motel. Lance kicked Martin out of the house for making a move on his girlfriend. When Martin began attending night classes and got a girlfriend, Lance felt left out and ran away but nobody even noticed he was gone. When he returned he mentioned a new girlfriend he met in the city called Marilyn and he allowed dodge to move in when he admitted he was broke and homeless after Lance caught him about to steal a car. He helped hide Dodge from the police but Dodge was arrested for a spate of burglaries and Lance feared he was in trouble for hiding him out but Barnett assured him he wasn’t in trouble. Lance won half a million dollars on a lottery ticket Carly bought him and went through a despearate search to find the ticket.

Brett begins dating Roo Stewart after her father Alf Stewart sends her to Boarding School in Sydney. When Frank Morgan arrives to visit Roo, he sees Brett and punches him. Brett soon learns Roo is pregnant and tells her to have an abortion but she refuses and runs away. Brett later learns of Roo's plan to convince Frank to marry her and pass the child off as his. Brett then tells Roo that a recent case of the mumps has left him infertile and conspires with her aunt Morag Bellingham to get custody of the child.
Producer Alan Bateman decided to introduce Stacey amidst a small cast "reshuffle". Stacey was described as a "young business woman" and love interest of the newly introduced "heart-throb" Philip Matheson . A reporter from TV Life described Stacey as a "ruthless business woman" who is in charge of a property development in Summer Bay. In the Home and Away Annual, Kesta Desmond said that as the children of Gordon Macklin , Stacey and her brother Brett were in charge of negotiating the rights to build in the area.
Martin Ashford (Home and Away)
Kat and Ash soon fall in love and start a relationship, which makes Phoebe jealous. Ash finds out that Billie is pregnant with Leah's son VJ Patterson . Ash was happy when Billie and VJ are engaged and Ash accepts VJ. Ash finds out that VJ isn't the father of Billie's baby and that Irene Roberts' long lost son, Mick Jennings is the father, who raped Billie at the gym. Ash discovers that Billie has lung cancer and has only a few moments to live.
During his time off-screen Lance became a father to baby Maggie. He returned once again in 2005 as part of the 4000th episode of Home and Away. In the storyline Lance arrives to celebrate Alf Stewart's birthday. Adam Cameron, played by Mat Stevenson, debuted on-screen during the episode airing on 28 June 1989. Stevenson had previously guested on rival soap opera Neighbours on Network Ten as petty criminal Skinner.
Mick attacks Stacey and trashes the house, leaving her shaken. Andrew refuses to give up on being a counsellor, which causes the relationship to break down. Stacey, after receiving a job offer from Nina in Los Angeles, bids a tearful farewell to Andrew and leaves Summer Bay. Morris later decided to leave the serial and asked the producers to kill Philip off.
Stacey and Philip get engaged but they are met with resistance from Stacey's father, Gordon who does not see Philip as good enough. Gordon fires Stacey after learning she is pregnant but when it emerges there was a mix up with her blood test, he offers her the job back but Stacey wants an apology. Stacey and Philip move in with Frank Morgan and Bobby Simpson at the flat above the general store but this arrangement fails when Stacey and Bobby clash. They manage to work out their differences and Stacey moves out. When the store is firebombed, Philip is killed in the fire and Stacey is left devastated.
Lance forms an on-screen partnership with Martin Dibble and their characters were subsequently used as the serial's comedy characters. Both Vroom and Thomson said that their characters did not provide a realistic representation of young people as the production team often censored their dialogue. Lance also has an over-protective mother Colleen Smart with whom he had to contend with. His main romantic relationship is with Marilyn Chambers and the pair became engaged.
