After receiving another such question this morning, I thought it might be worthwhile to put that info in a blog post. Unfortunately your browser isn't able to show embedded frames. Click to clear the Maximum memory check box, and then click OK.
Luckily, you can specify how much memory Windows 7 64-bit should address on boot up. There is no official statement regarding the usage of RAM by Windows 11. You can install Windows 11 on 4GB of RAM without any problem. Talking about the Memory consumption, you cannot say if Windows 11 consumes more or less RAM than Windows 10 or any other older version.
Our Recommended RAM Amounts for Windows 10 and Windows 7
These limits are similar to those for Windows Vista editions, except that Vista Enterprise and Vista Ultimate have had their upper limits raised from 128GB to 192GB. 4GB – We consider this the absolute minimum any modern computer running Windows 10 or Windows 7 should have. This is adequate for basic productivity in applications like Word and simple web browsing as long as you don’t open too many browser tabs simultaneously. Modern motherboards use a trick where RAM modules are given their own dedicated memory channels. For example, if there are two RAM modules installed they’ll run in “dual channel mode”, which significantly increases bandwidth.
It is better to have two 8GB modules in dual channel mode rather than a single 16GB module running in single channel mode. Over the next few weeks, you might hear a few wild-eyed fans claim that Windows 7 is perfect. Indeed, the new Windows is not only the best operating system that Microsoft has ever produced. For example, all 32-bit operating systems can use a maximum of at most 4GB of RAM, so installing more than 4GB of RAM in a system with a 32-bit operating system is pointless. Simply put, a 64-bit processor is more capable than a 32-bit processor because it can handle more data at once. A 64-bit processor can store more computational values, including memory addresses, which means it can access over 4 billion times the physical memory of a 32-bit processor.

Workstations with many CPU cores and even multi-socket motherboards need this class of RAM allocation. This RAM size is largely driven by the size of the assets that the CPU needs to process. So if you need this much RAM, you probably already know it.
Another possibility is wrong temperature readings, wrong temperature readings can result in slow performance and loud enoying fan noice. Hi, I've been having BSOD problems(I don't actually see a BSOD the power just goes off) ever since I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to 7 Home Premium. It occasionally happens during start-up or randomly at other times. Typically, your computer’s hardware and Windows 7 works together to identify the hardware you have in your PC. This includes the memory or RAM you have installed. Occasionally, your computer is not aware of what you have and may report that you have less RAM than you actually do.
Now the is a pretty, colorful bar to show you where the memory is allocated to. If the bar shows a grey section than you may have found the problem. That screenshot shows me that your are not running cmd.exe at an elevated administrative level. So, yeah, I'm quite sure that i installed it according to the manual.
One of the most frequently asked questions here at Rick’s Daily Tips is how much RAM a particular version of Windows will support. Home Premium was part of a combo deal with my motherboard, and right now 16GB is more than enough. There’s no general way to make applications use more RAM, and in general, they will use what they need to. 1.5TB is the limitation of the hardware – MacOS now can support up to 18 Exabyte RAM. Windows bit cannot override the installation on the Operating System of 64 bit.
If you only have 4GB of memory and do not plan to install any additional memory then I would install the 32Bit version as there is nothing to be gained by installing the 64Bit version. Vista was the same - the x64 version dictated how much RAM you could use. However, Windows 7 increased the max quite a bit! I was surprised by this, as I don't remember seeing in the version matrix that Microsoft posted. It won't be long before 16 Gig is not such a huge number. And I am glad I went for Pro, but my motivation was solely XP Mode.
